If you are not interested in owning a Google branded device, but want more RAM and a thus a bit longer useful life expectancy out of your next phone, then this may be your next device. Sadly, the Moto Edge doesn’t have a headphone jack or a SD card slot as those only appear on their lower-tier Moto G phones, but they had to be removed partly to due to the IP68 water-resistance certification. With the predominance of bluetooth earbuds and 256GB of internal storage, you may find you don’t miss the external ports. When you have it in your hand you will fully appreciate the higher cost in order to have a more premium device.

NOTE: iodé (also spelled iodé or iode) themselves do not provide official builds for this device, but we at OpenMobile create our own builds and provide OTA (“Over The Air”) monthly updates for them.

Also note that our build process doesn’t allow the bootloader to be relocked, so we sell them with the bootloader unlocked. There will be a message at boot to this effect, but never fear: your personal user data is always encrypted and secure with modern Android! It can only be decrypted using your unlock pattern or password, even if you lose your phone. A malicious actor with access to an unlocked bootloader and some programming skills can access ‘fastboot’ commands or the ‘recovery’ program. While they could install a new operating system, the personal user data on the device will not be accessible.
